Upgrading WordPress? Don't forget to download your plugin folder
If you're planning on upgrading your WordPress site to a newer version, one important step you don't want to overlook is downloading your plugin folder.
Why is this step so important?
Well, when you upgrade WordPress, it overwrites all the core files on your site. This means any plugins you have installed - even if they were working fine before the update - may be affected by the changes to the core files.
By downloading your plugin folder before the update, you'll have a backup of all your plugins in case anything goes wrong during the upgrade process.
Here's how to download your plugin folder:
Log in to your WordPress site and navigate to the "wp-content" directory.
Within the "wp-content" folder, you'll see a folder called "plugins". Right-click on this folder and select "Download" or "Download as ZIP".
The download process may take a few minutes, depending on the size of your plugin folder. Once it's complete, you should have a backup of all your plugins saved to your computer.
After you've downloaded your plugin folder, go ahead and proceed with the WordPress update as normal. If anything does go wrong during the upgrade process, you can simply reinstall your plugins using the backup you created.
It's always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to website maintenance. Taking a few extra minutes to download your plugin folder can save you a lot of headaches down the line.
